Vice Chair Introduction - Taylor Lang

 Hi Hi! My name is Taylor Lang (she/her) and I will be your Vice Chair for BMUN 72's United Nations Security Council! I am a second-year working towards my B.S. in Environmental Economics & Policy and B.A. in Sociology with a minor in City & Regional Planning.  I intend on going to law school down the road but my more niche interests include land-use regulations, sustainable development, and environmental law. This is my second year in BMUN & sixth year involved in MUN. I currently serve as our USG of Organizations & Philanthropy where I get to work with our amazing conference cause, partners, and run our opening ceremony. I also served as the Head Chair of UN Security Council at Fall Conference III in November of 2023 if any of you were in attendance! Outside of BMUN, I am apart of a dance company on campus, serve as my sorority's philanthropy director, and I'm a research fellow with UC Berkeley's Institute of International Studies. I know what it is like to be in your shoes, as I was a delegate in UNSC for BMUN 70 (2022). I am proud of you all for challenging yourself with UNSC and know that it will be so worth it! Looking forward to meeting you all in committee!

Public Speaking Tips

  Hi delegates!  As we continue counting down the days to BMUN 72, I wanted to provide some advice on speeches and speaking in general.  First, and most importantly, breathe and have fun with it! I understand how scary it can be to speak in front of others, but we're all here to learn together. Your speech doesn't have to be the most perfectly polished to be good---we're looking for meaningful research that relates to and aligns with your countries' stances on the topics at hand. Use that knowledge and apply it to new solutions. Just try to be confident and remember to practice, practice, practice!  When you're speaking, remember to project your voice and enunciate clearly so you are understandable to everyone in the audience. Try not to be monotone and speak with varied intonation. Don't be afraid to be creative! We love well-researched speeches, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring. Position Paper Tips

  Hi delegates! Just wanted to check in and offer a bit more guidance on your position papers. As a reminder, UN Security will be using a different Position Paper format detailed in the UNSC page on the BMUN website ( https://www.bmun.org/committees/unsc ) . This is because the second topic is Open Agenda, and rather than having you write position papers on each of the potential topics, we would like to see you all start working towards creating arguments on which ones are most pressing at this time! Besides the general format, we wanted to offer some tips on the research process and the formation of your paper.  Research The biggest favor you can do for yourself in the writing process is to really apply time and effort into understanding the topics beforehand.
