Suggestions for Solutions

Hi delegates!


As BMUN grows nearer, I wanted to offer some advice on your solutions and what our dais expects for committee! 


Before diving into the different types of solutions we are hoping to see in committee, I wanted to take this opportunity to revisit our learning goals and expectations for research in hopes that your solutions end up addressing these key points:

 [include 4-7 learning goals or expectations for your committee (general or topic specific, but be sure to separate the lists if they’re topic specific]

 

- Environmental Justice →  A Human Right (Water, Air & Food)

- Talking about current sensitive topics with respect & care

- Researching topics using accurate and relevant sources 

- Creating feasible and realistic solutions for the environmental injustices the committee is faced with

Please keep these learning goals in mind when forming solutions! They are key points we want you to address! 


Need stepping off points to start thinking about solutions? Start at the synopsis! As you read, highlight key issues that need to be addressed as well as ways they have been addressed in the past. From here you can think critically about what has been successful and what you can reform. Additionally, the ‘Questions to Consider’ section is a GREAT way to jumpstart your solutions outline… happy writing! Our synopsis is linked here UNSC Synopsis if you want to check that out now.


We know these topics can seem overwhelming at times and that it may be difficult to think of where to begin. With this in mind, we wanted to offer a few suggestions on where to start with solutions and what we think would be great points to include:

- Start with understanding the sources from where the issue is manifesting

- Look to the countries that are exacerbating the issues that are most relevant to the water crisis

- Stay focused on WATER, this is not a committee that will be largely rooted in the war

- Look at the case studies in the Synopsis!

Public Speaking Tips

  Hi delegates!  As we continue counting down the days to BMUN 72, I wanted to provide some advice on speeches and speaking in general.  First, and most importantly, breathe and have fun with it! I understand how scary it can be to speak in front of others, but we're all here to learn together. Your speech doesn't have to be the most perfectly polished to be good---we're looking for meaningful research that relates to and aligns with your countries' stances on the topics at hand. Use that knowledge and apply it to new solutions. Just try to be confident and remember to practice, practice, practice!  When you're speaking, remember to project your voice and enunciate clearly so you are understandable to everyone in the audience. Try not to be monotone and speak with varied intonation. Don't be afraid to be creative! We love well-researched speeches, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring. Topic A Updates

Hey delegates!  Considering the current situation in Gaza, we wanted to help provide some information as to how that is affecting the Water Crisis in the region. Hence, we have written an update paper(linked here ) recognizing how the topic has changed and what we consider to be starting points for any last minute research. Position Paper Tips

  Hi delegates! Just wanted to check in and offer a bit more guidance on your position papers. As a reminder, UN Security will be using a different Position Paper format detailed in the UNSC page on the BMUN website ( https://www.bmun.org/committees/unsc ) . This is because the second topic is Open Agenda, and rather than having you write position papers on each of the potential topics, we would like to see you all start working towards creating arguments on which ones are most pressing at this time! Besides the general format, we wanted to offer some tips on the research process and the formation of your paper.  Research The biggest favor you can do for yourself in the writing process is to really apply time and effort into understanding the topics beforehand.
